In addition to its fame for rhino, Mkhaya Game Reserve is also known for its Narina Trogon, currently nesting at Stone Camp. This week, the first Narina Trogon chick of the season took its first flight around Stone Camp. It was amazing to see the young one moving from one branch to another trying to improve its flying capability and getting ready for the bush. This special event comes in addition to the numerous baby sightings being made. The image shows the chick, yet to develop the bright beautiful colours for which the Trogon is famed.
The reserve is an exciting conservation success story and continues to provide much needed refuge for both the endangered black and white rhinos in addition to a whole host of other endangered species. For up-close rhino sightings pre-book a stay at the reserve: www.biggameparks.org/mkhaya
Recently a female Nyala gave birth to a baby at Stone Camp at Mkhaya Game Reserve, adding to Big Game Parks wildlife. It was amazing to watch the mother being patient with little one while she was learning to walk. We have this picture of the little baby Nyala as she is trying to find her way around the camp.

Mkhaya Game Reserve recently scooped the ‘AA Travellers Value Award for Top-End Leisure Travellers’ and with good reason! This South Eastern Swaziland Game Reserve is home to four of the Big 5 including Black Rhino, exquisite birdlife including the elusive Narina Trogon and Pink-Throated Twin-spots and a whole host of other must-see wildlife highlights, but it is the excellent Swazi service, and truly unique semi-open stone and thatched cottages which really set this reserve apart. Mkhaya Game Reserve is seldom short of praise; recently Wild Photo-journalist Stephen Cunliffe said: ‘A rhino walk at Mkhaya stands on par with a mountain gorilla encounter in Central Africa’ while Lonely Planet Africa Author Kate Armstrong said ‘This reserves that your more likely to see rhino here than anywhere else in Africa, and judging by our experience, this is true!’. Entry to Mkhaya at fixed times of either 10am or 4pm must be pre-booked in advanced and once in the reserve, your entry, food, activities and accommodation is included in the price of your chosen package.
